Why we test static pressure on every install, not just repairs
It’s the single number that predicts whether a new system will actually perform like its rating says.
Static pressure measures how hard a system’s blower has to work to push air through your ductwork. It’s not a number most homeowners have heard of, and it’s also the single best predictor of whether a brand-new, correctly sized system will actually deliver the comfort and efficiency its rating promises — or underperform from day one because the ductwork was never re-evaluated.
What happens when it’s skipped
A new high-efficiency system paired with ductwork that’s too restrictive for it will run hotter, louder, and less efficiently than an older, cheaper system would in the same ducts — and it’ll wear out the blower motor faster doing it. This is one of the most common reasons a homeowner replaces a system and doesn’t see the bill improvement they expected.
How we actually test it
A manometer measures pressure on both the supply and return sides while the system runs. If the total is outside the range the equipment manufacturer specifies, that tells us exactly where the ductwork is undersized or restricted — before we finish the install, not after a callback.
